The crickets are chirping, there’s a gentle breeze blowing, and there is a chill in the air. The dog days of Summer have come and gone and Fall is well on its way. This is actually the perfect time of the year to be writing about Solo Stove.
These guys make stoves for a few different purposes, but the thing that sold me was their fire pits. I live out in the woods and I love a good campfire this time of year. The crackling flames, conversations with friends, and the warmth that radiates from the glowing embers of a hot fire. What I don’t love is the smoke that seems to blow into my eyes no matter where I sit, and having to shower and wash my clothes afterwards because everything reeks of smoke.
Solo Stove gives me all of the enjoyment of my outdoor fire pit, without the smoke and the smell. I wish I would have invented it myself, but I didn’t. I am glad that I discovered it though. This is another one of those products that has made my life better, so I figured I would share it with you.

Solo Stove began in 2010 as just a single cooking stove. The idea was to create a stove that burned hot, without the smoke and the smell, could be used safely anywhere outdoors, and would last forever.
The design was simple, but it was unique, and it was highly effective. There was a strong emphasis on quality. These things are built like tanks. Their stainless steel construction not only makes them beautiful, it makes them temperature and corrosion resistant as well.
From the beginning, the customer was the foundation of this company, and nothing has changed. Everything they do is passed through the filter of what is going to be best for their customers. Their growing success and enormous positive feedback is a testament to this. We will take a look at what some of their customers have to say later in this review.
The unique design of the Solo Stove is what enables it to burn so hot and so cleanly, without the smoke and smell of a regular campfire.
Vent holes at the bottom of the stove suck air in. As the air enters the vents, it does two things.
First, it delivers oxygen to the base of the fire helping it to grow and spread. Secondly, it travels up, between the double walls of the stove, increasing in temperature as it goes. By the time it exits the vent holes at the top of the stove, it is super-heated.
This super heated air feeds the top side of the fire, helping it to combust more completely and efficiently, thereby eliminating most of the smoke and turning it into heat instead.
Another benefit of efficient combustion is the fact that it leaves very little ash behind. The ash that is left is of a very fine consistency and collects nicely in the ash pan at the bottom of the stove. Cleaning it is as easy as dumping it out.
Solo Stove has grown from a single cooking stove, to a full line of fire pits, grills, camping stoves, accessories, and even apparel. We’ll take a look at each of these categories so you can get an idea of everything they have to offer. We will also see what other customers have to say about the stoves.
These fire pits are my favorite Solo Stove products. They are perfect for Fall get togethers, or for backyard cookouts with your family. It’s a good way to break up the normal routine, get outside, and inspire fun and good conversation.
There are three different sizes to choose from, the Ranger, the Bonfire, and the Yukon (my personal favorite). Each one has a matching accessory kit that you can get with it. The accessories are cool and include stuff like a weatherproof cover, spark arresting screen, foldable roasting sticks, and a stand so that you can set your Solo Stove right on your deck.
We’ll take a look at the details of each size, so you can see which one fits your home and lifestyle the best.
The Ranger is the smallest fire pit in the collection. It’s great if you live in the city, or if you travel a lot and want to take it with you. The opening at the top is 13″ across and the stove itself is 12.5″ inches high, making it the perfect size for chunk wood or small logs.
At 15 pounds, it is easy to transport and it comes with a black nylon carry bag with handles.
The Bonfire is Solo Stove’s mid size fire pit and is large enough to have a legit campfire. It only weighs 5 pounds more than the Ranger, but it’s opening is 17.5″ wide and it is 14 inches tall. At this size, it can handle real firewood logs, and due to it’s innovative construction, it really throws off some heat!
The Yukon is my favorite. This thing is a big beast that lets you have roaring fires, without the smoke or the smell. It weighs in at 38 pounds, has an opening that is 23″ wide, and it is 16″ tall. It’s perfect for cooking, roasting marshmallows, or just hanging out and staying warm on those crisp fall nights.
The Solo Stove grill is an exciting new option. I uses the same design as the other stoves to produce an exceptionally hot fire with very little smoke.
The grill is designed to be used like a traditional charcoal grill, but without the traditional charcoal grill hassle. There are no air flow controls to mess with and you never have to touch or add to the charcoal once you’ve started grilling.
Solo’s Signature 360° Airflow Design gets the grill up to temperature fast and and will have you eating sooner than you ever thought possible on a charcoal grill.
In fact, they ran a timed test where they took a brand new Solo Grill, assembled it, lit it, and cooked a burger on it in only 30 minutes.
The Solo Stove Grill comes with a short stand, with the idea that everyone can sit around it and cook together Hibachi style. They also have an optional tall stand if you want a more traditional grilling style.
There are other accessories available for the grill as well. My favorites are the grill shelter, grilling tools, and the grill pack which is all natural charcoal made with vegetable starch.
One of the things I love about Solo Stove’s website is the large number of reviews they have accumulated over the years. Whenever I’m thinking of making a purchase, I always like to know what other people are saying about the product. Check out some reviews on the Solo Grill below.
These are the little stoves that got it all started. Solo’s camp stoves are a safe, fun, and effective way to cook while camping or backpacking.
They are super lightweight. In fact, the smallest ones weigh less than a pound. And yet, they have the same design as the larger stoves and can boil water in less than 10 minutes using only sticks and twigs as fuel.
Camp Stoves are also safer than building a fire out in the open. They keep your fire contained and don’t throw sparks or smoke.
There are currently three different sizes of camp stoves.
This is the smallest and lightest Camp Stove. It cooks for one or two people, weighs only 9 ounces, and is 5.7 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide at the opening.
The Titan is the perfect size to cook for two to four people. It weighs in a just over a pound, is 7.9 inches tall and 5.1 inches wide at the opening. Basically, it’s the perfect camping stove for small families.
The Campfire is the largest of the camping stoves before you get into the fire pits. It weighs 2.2 pounds, so it is still easy enough to carry in your pack, and it cooks for 4+ people.
The Campfire runs on sticks, twigs, and pine cones, and 9.25 inches tall and 7 inches wide at the opening.
Solo Stove has some really neat accessories. In addition to pre-made bundles that they have conveniently put together for each stove, you can also get accessories piece by piece.
They have a large selection of quality items. You will find everything from roasting sticks and windscreens, to firewood, pots, bowls, and plates. The nice thing is, Solo Stove doesn’t sell junk, so you know that anything you get from them works great and is built to last.
I really like Solo Stove. I think they make great products and I love what they are about. Their stoves work fantastically and they are made from the best quality products. These things are built to last.
In a world where so many things are electronic it is nice to find something that helps you get back to the basics. Solo stoves encourage a love for the outdoors and foster a spirit of togetherness. They get people outside and get them talking to one another.
In case you should run into a problem, their customer service is second to none, and they have the reviews to back that claim up.
If you are looking for a new fire pit, a great camping stove, or even a grill, look no farther than Solo Stove.
